[What does Theo do when he's bored? He gets drunk! And he certainly gets drunk a lot. Today's no exception. You'll find him:

A) At the pub, at a table. Somehow, his two crow familiars have snuck their way in with him. One is sitting on his shoulder, chatting at him quietly. Theo talks aloud with it. The other is flapping from table to table, sitting on chairs and curiously looking at other patrons, eavesdropping on conversations. Occasionally he returns to his master and fills him in on any juicy tidbits he overheard. Feel free to annoy/talk to/attempt to shoo Theo and his feathery friends.

B)Outside, there's someone who's fallen over in a snowbank! Maybe it's outside your house or you're passing by, but there's Theo, stuck there like an upturned turtle. There's a dropped flask a few feet away, and the crows are sitting with him unsure of what to do. The braver one gently pecks at his knee. The other one is doing the crow version of laughter.]

Quiet! Shut up! 'Course I can get up. Just gimme a minute.

[It's not going to happen. So what will you do? You should probably point and laugh and leave him there, but you can try and help him if you want.]

[He looks them over.] Magic items, huh. Do they let anyone cast, then? Healing is a rare thing where I'm from. Too difficult for most people.

Just about anyone, yeah! Not everyone has the talent for it, of course... And anyone can heal, if they have the right runes! [She waves her hands.] Both of these have healing spells on 'em, but water's probably the best for that.

You're lucky then. Magic is a lot more difficult to do where I'm from. And not everyone can cast it.

I dunno about that... Being able to use magic is really nice, but sometimes it's more trouble than it's worth.

[She shakes her head.] Not to me. I mean, the stuff I use, there's no risk or anything -- but the really powerful runes? No thanks.

What sort of risks? Powerful spells where I come can eat up the energy of the caster. Do it wrong, and it'll kill you.

Well, I'm just speaking from experience, here... But there's war -- you know, people fighting over it and all... and the possibility of destroying entire countries. So, yeah, no.

Spellcasters in my world rarely do anything so bold. They just hide in their guilds all day, too afraid to do anything. The witch trails were 250 years ago and they still haven't recovered.

Ohh... We don't have guilds or anything like that where I'm from. Did something bad happen?

The witch trials ended up with a lot of innocent people getting killed. Almost started a damn genocide of spellcasters. Ever since then, most of 'em hide away in guilds and never come out.

Do people have something against magicians there or something? [She wrinkles her nose.] I mean, sure, some of 'em are kinda weird, but... there's nothing wrong with magic, for the most part. It's nothing to be ashamed of!

"Normal" people are afraid of us. They don't understand what we do. And spellcasters have spent so long sequestering themselves from the rest of society that they never will. Well, until the demons showed up. Things are getting complicated in my home world.

I can't even imagine that... Anyone who wants to use magic can, so long as they've got the potch for a rune crystal and a runemaster to attach it -- it's not all that uncommon, you know?

...Demons? Yeah, that sounds complicated, all right~

It's just not common enough I guess. People fear what they don't understand. Their loss if you ask me.

Magic is pretty great! But I don't think it's for everyone. [She shrugs and takes a long drink.] People tend to abuse it, you know?

That was part of the problem for us back home... Power entering the wrong hands -- and not just magic! So I guess you can't really blame those guild guys of yours...

Guilds are pretentious anyway. You can't get in without loads of money or nepotism. People like me with neither can't get in, and it's almost impossible to study magic without being in one.

That's just dumb! Why restrict it like that? It just encourages people to abuse their magic!

Mostly to keep it out of the hands of the general public. Still, I found my ways around it and learned on my own.

There's not a lot of laws governing magic. There's a massive underground movement for people like me who don't want to deal with guilds. Has been for hundreds of years.

[If Theo only knew of all the laws enacted now because of what *he* did back home. He ruined everyone's fun.]

Oh, definitely. At least I think so.
