sanctus_dei | 12th Resurrection - How to Make Friends & Influence People

[A pale young man sits alone at the park at an outdoor chess board during the afternoon. There's pieces on the board, and a few have been moved around. Mostly, he's reading through an old, old book as he sits there. There's no title on the cover, or if there was, it rubbed off ages ago. There's another book sitting next to him too on the bench - just a run-of-the-mill library book on basic car care. He smokes as he reads, and occasionally puts the book down to make a move on the chessboard. Yep, against himself. He has no one else to play with at the moment. Captain Crankypants here knows that he needs to make allies if he ever wants to overthrow this town, or crack its mysteries... but he also really hates 90% of people, and wouldn't know how to make friends with someone if his life depended on it. And without his spellcasting ability, there wasn't much he could do...

Nonsense! There's plenty Theo's capable of... right?

He also knows that he needs to find a relaxing hobby in this town before he goes completely mad. After all, he was just threatening to beat a girl with a wrench for messing with his car that he doesn't even *care* about. And that he already pretty muched FUBARed it on his own. Obviously mechanics will require more study before he jumps in head-first again...

So this was as far as Theo could make it to being social. He's outside, what more do you want? Well, maybe you want to join in and play some chess. Or maybe you just want to point and laugh at him for being a bitter loner. The choice is yours.]

Blowing stuff up is fun... but pushing the limits is even better.

I think I'm going to stick with the conventional means of causing damage thank you very much.

Limits are meant to be pushed anyways.

Anyone can shoot a gun, or throw a punch. Not everyone can cast magic.

....touche. But I'll get it back soon enough. And it hasn't stopped me from studying, since they gave me back my library at least.

So...not to be mean, but I think the first thing you should cast when you do get it back is an armor spell. I think that would be in your best interest.

[Frown] I'll have you know I've already started setting up protection spells around my house. As far as I can without having to ability to cast, anyway.

That's not what I meant Theo. [He sighs and shakes his head]. Never mind. I know comic book physics don't really apply to what you do.

....I CAN cast something on myself. See if I can make myself as impervious of that drunken jackass. Not sure if I have any spells like that, but I can look.

[Theo was more focused on looking for spells to bring the Captain down, instead.]

[Ken is being such a giant hypocrite about this, he concentrates more on offense just as much as Theo does. But he's fine about trying to get his friend to protect himself more. He knows Theo isn't as sturdy as him.]

You mean you never thought about it?

I was more concerned about a way to stop him entirely.

Well, fair enough, but that might be easier if you don't crumple after the first hit. [Shit, he'd said that before he'd thought about it.]

I mean...! er... I'm sorry Theo! I didn't mean it to come out that way!

[Theo does look a lot healthier than when he got here. It'd been even better if he didn't drink and smoke as much as he does.]

Yeah, well, it's hard to escape the drone wife and her cooking.

They aren't half bad if you can get them off the meatloaf kick. I had to beg and plead until she just got so sick of it that she let me cook.

[Looks at his watch] Speaking of which...I promised Relm I wouldn't let Miakis touch the stove tonight.

Or the gelatin kick. Ugh.

[Starts gathering up the chess pieces.] We better practice. It won't be fun if I win all the time.

Yeah. I'll get you one of these times Theo! I'm a fast learner! [He helps Theo clean up and stands]

Now be good and please don't get into trouble.

[Just glares at you]

[He laughs and holds up his hands] I'm kidding, I'm kidding.

[Privately he thought that it would take a pretty special girl to put up with Theo but thankfully he managed to keep that one inside his head. Besides, like he was one to talk.]
