45th Resurrection

Theo tended to side with Sartre about that whole "hell is other people" line. But Kay had kept telling him that maybe if he made some friends, maybe he wouldn't be so miserable. But he's fine alone! He's always been alone. So why should that change?

Except that maybe, after 14 months in Mayfield, Theo could no longer stand the boredom that came with living in this town. He's exhausted his spell components that he can't replace here. He's read through all of his books countless times. He's taught himself a whole new set of spells an refined how gravity spells can be used - if he were at home, he'd have the attention of the magic community, and in a positive way this time. He had to do something, since his beloved necromantic spells are virtually useless in Mayfield.

But now he's done with that too. So now what?

He has nothing in common with people. He finds most of them to be stupid, ignorant and useless. There's only one person he gets along with in town. Ken Hidaka is the only person in town that Theo actually likes hanging out with, and even Theo doesn't know why. Most other people he knows, he just argues with, like Nina and Kay. Hell, he never even got along with his Servant, back when that pact still existed. Theo hasn't even talked to Gilgamesh since he regressed.

Theo knows he has to do something. He has to get out of the house, and find something else to do. Being left with nothing but his own thoughts, locked away in his study, was getting to be too much. It's really too bad though, that Theo is certifiably paranoid, gets nervous in crowds, is frequently drunk and is completely socially inept. At least he has his familiars to keep him company and cheer him on!

Theo Crawford: man about town. Here we go, Mayfield.

1) Theo's at the park, animal companions in tow. He sits in the grass, a large black and white cat asleep next to him on one side, and a smallish crow on the other. A larger crow is playing catch with him. Theo has a small rubber ball that the rolls over the grass, throws in the air or propels it all the way across the park with a gravity spell. The crow gleefully caws and chases after, returning it to his master. Maybe the ball and bird have come your way, or maybe you're just curious as to what in the world is going on here. Whatever it is, feel free to harass them.

2) Theo has the hood of his car popped open, and is tinkering around in the hood. He's in his driveway, book next open next to him. Self-taught in the art of care car, studying it when he first got to Mayfield, he's neglected it for awhile. Time to try again. Are you passing by? Have any pointers for him?

3) Are you at the bank, or do you work there? Theo does, and he's attempting to be helpful or interested. This translates to Theo sort of hovering about people, or near the watercolor or common areas looking awkward and uncomfortable. This is just not working out, is it?

4) Theo is often at the bar, but he's usually in a lone barstool in the corner, reading alone. Today, he is sitting in the middle of the action. Maybe he should talk to people. He looks lost. Why is this so terrifying it's only getting worse as the day goes on oh god. Oh, he knows! Maybe he'll buy you a drink. Whoever you are. Yes, that is what people do to make friends. Buy drinks for other people.

5) When he finally gives up, either getting too bored or distracted, he's coming to Ken's house. He may or may not be plastered at this point. Knock knock, Ken.

Exactly. Everyone keeps telling me to find a hobby, as if anything here is interesting.

Or satisfying. I'm pretty much on my feet all hours of the day at home. At first the regular sleep was nice, but when people don't have injuries to treat, or babies birth or anything that might need a witch, it get's tedious.

I've run out of magic to study too. I got my books back last year and have read through them countless times. Hnn. Hate this goddamn-- [He starts fiddling with the engine again, frowning at it.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-05 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well if you're interested I have a book from my home about magic if you'd like to read it.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2011-07-06 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[His head perks up at that.] Yeah? What on?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's written by a wizard and it's about windows into other worlds. And how you can use paintings, pages in books to step into them.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
... You'd let me borrow it?

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as I get it back I don't mind letting you borrow it.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You will. I suppose I could lend you something in return, then.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
A book would be nice.

[They're rare in her world. And she loves them.]

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've got a lot here with me. They're all incredibly rare or one-of-a-kind, so if I borrow them, make sure they come back in one piece. [There's an unsaid "or else" there.]

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[She knows how to look after books.]

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Stop by with it sometime, and I'll trade with you then.

[identity profile] the-wee-big-hag.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright. I'll do that then.
