[Look out below, Mayfield! There's something being dropped on you. It's small and light, made of wood... why look, it's a chess piece. It might have been dropped right on you or nearby you from above, by a large black crow. It sits on a phone wire, cawing. Does it sound just a little bit like laughter?

Elsewhere around town, Theo can be found searching for the pieces, grumbling to himself. A different crow is sitting on his shoulder, occasionally hopping or flying nearby to help look. Theo's talking to it.]

No, go over there. Higher! You're a bird, don't you have better eyes than people? He's taken almost all the pieces. Just know when I see him next time, I'm gonna wring his neck.

[They stumble across a piece every once in while, but didn't you just get hit with a chess a few minutes ago?]

[[Please just specify if you're approaching the first crow - he can talk to people - or approaching Theo and the other bird!]]

[Kira looks at the chess piece which has somehow managed to drop down and smack her, frowning as she leans to pick it up. Where did it even come from? She'll glance around, and if she spots Theo, she'll approach him.]

[He looks around. That's a good question. But to answer Ken's question, here comes Theo and the other bird down the other end of the block. The crow near Ken flies back up onto the lines.]

[Approaching Theo and the other bird! She's holding a rook that was dropped on her head.]

Pieces...? Excuse me, sir, is this yours?

[Above Kira is a crow whole almost sounds to be cackling before it flies off. Theo storms up, being followed by another crow. Theo yells to it as it flies off.]

Son of a bitch, get back here! Where are you hiding those?

[He's never given anyone the birds' names before. The other bird - presumably Phobos - sits on Theo's shoulders, cuddled close to his master.]

[Indeed he doesn't. As Theo gets closer, the bird flies swiftly away. Theo spots this.]

[He sees Ken.] You could've grabbed that for me.

I've only been saying that for months now. Everyone in their oh-so-amazing escape plans don't keep in mind those of us who don't want to go home. I suppose it would only matter if one of these plans would ever actually work.

[ She chuckles, ] Well, at least I chose the literary pair. My other guess was Heckle and Jekyll, but the chess piece seemed to indicate it was related to someone more... studious.
