18th Resurrection - Fallout

[Theo wakes up the next day from his fight against Ken with a start. That's three times he's died since he's gotten to Mayfield, fourth overall. He laid in bed staring off into space for awhile. He didn't just die - he was viciously murdered by the last person he expected to do so. But it was to be expected, wasn't it? People weren't to be trusted, especially here. Ken was no exception.

With that, Theo gets up, and immediately goes to his study, locking himself in. He doesn't come out either, unless absolutely necessary. He avoids talking to anyone. It's just him and his books. Magic was the only thing that doesn't let him down, so in his study he stays to distract himself with his research.

But he couldn't stop thinking about what happeneed. His brain wouldn't shut it off.

Then there's that problem in Mayfield when you lose track of time and skip your job. After a few days, Theo wakes up again, all cheerful and droned, going about your average drone morning and heads into work.]

[Theo will be droned this morning! He's pleasant and cheery despite looking like utter hell. He had locked himself away for a few days with nothing but his books and a few bottles of wine to keep him company. No food, no sleep, no sun. After he gets to the library and the droning wears off, he goes about his job and the rest of his day, trying to avoid even so much as looking at another person, let alone talk to them.

After work he'll be found on a bench at the park, looking miserable as ever, sitting with his two zombie crows, reading, and chain smoking like a fiend. He may or may not also be slightly drunk. He's reading another one of his old magical tomes. The creepy crows will suspiciously eye anyone who walks by. Feel free to pester him while droned or not, at any point~]

Are you going to keep me guessing, then?

*because she really has nothing better to do*

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[He looks almost perplexed. But still cranky.]

Do you actually care?

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps...

*No, she's just bored*

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[He looks mistrustful, but that's no surprise either.]

To make a long story short, I need to get back to practicing magic more. And that's I've misjudged people here.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It certainly is no good being out of practice in an environment like this.

Why would you say you've misjudged?

*tea sip*

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and I've cleared slipped up. Even desipte all my studying once I got my books back.

[He's clearly uncomfortable with that question but he's trynig to hide it.]

I'd hardly call myself a good judge of character, I suppose.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm... yes, it does sound like you could use some practice, then.

*an small eyebrow lift*

Somebody you trusted betrayed you, perhaps?

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I know better than to trust anyone here.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hm... well, I suppose if you don't want to talk about it, I won't press any further.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ffft he kinda does, you can tell. But he's too untrusting. Now it's time for a subject change. After a few moments of silence and a long drag on his cigarette:]

Someone got me thinking. How do people do magic where you're from? Can anyone do it? Or just certain people?

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-05 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume you mean the magic native to my world, and not the magic we can pick up from others.

Simply put, it's impossible without undergoing the procedure to becoming one of my kind.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
So you started off as human, but aren't anymore? Interesting.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-06 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You misunderstand. Technically, we still are human, and the process is unnecessary for those who were born there. Being native to that world, well...

*she sips tea, as the rest was obvious*

There are rare times when they observe an... "exemplary" individual, whom they will offer the chance to join them.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I see. In my world either you can do it or you can't. And learning it is next to impossible unless you're rich enough to buy your way into a guild, or can get in through nepotism. I had neither, so I had to find other methods.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
While magic is more or less an innate ability in my kind, there are still teachers to ensure that people aren't... doing things they shouldn't with it.

I'm certain they've tightened regulations severely after the little display that had me nearly incarcerated.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh ho! These two have more in common than he thought.]

Really? I could say the same about myself, but I wasn't lucky enough to get away with just being incarcerated.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
If execution was a viable method of punishment, I'm sure they would have employed it.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
In a manner of speaking, yes.

[identity profile] sanctusdei.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't you lucky. That's near impossible where I'm from. My mentor, for all his worthlessness, actually managed it. But he wouldn't tell anyone how.

[identity profile] teacup-parry.livejournal.com 2010-08-07 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a time when it was impossible in my world, I'm sure. Sadly, I'm not familiar with the process.
