CHARACTER NAME: Theodore Crawford
CHARACTER AGE: 19
CANON: Original: history here
CANON POINT: CRAU
CRAU INFO: From the ending of The Return Journeyreturnjourneylogs. Basically LILITH will be bringing Theo here as he's getting transferred from his old prison ship to his new one. A more detailed history of his time at that game is here.
SUITABILITY: The Peregrine had locked Theo's magic away, but let's say LILITH was able to bring it back - all but his ability to use necromancy. That's fine, really. While he'll miss his favorite area of study, he will be elated to have his magic skill back in any way. Theo is mistrusting by nature, but thanks to LILITH returning his power, and the fact that they got him out of going to a new prison, he'll be willing to work with them. He's also very responsive to attention and reinforcement from adults who bother to take the time to do so, so a little praise and real encouragement from LILITH will go a long way.
Physically, Theo is a bit of a wreck. He'd been recovering aboard the Peregrine, and he still has a way to go. However, he makes up for it by being an extremely powerful spellcaster, and will be able to fight kaiju from a distance as opposed to melee combat up close. Back home, he'd never ever have the opportunity to use his spells in such a way. Once it's explained to him what he'll get to do in fights, he'll not only be more than ready to go, he'll start working on ways to keep himself safe in battle. That will probably be in the form of defensive spells, forcefields especially. If you can ever get him to stop smoking like a chimney, he's young enough that maybe he can learn to throw punches a little better and improve his physical health (to a point). He's a rough street kid who already knows how to do that to some degree, but he is leagues away from ever being a melee combat fighter.
He's not used to teamwork, and that will take some adjusting. However, with other mages here among the Outsiders, he will be eager to learn whatever people are willing to teach him. Besides, he'll have to learn teamwork if he wants to keep from getting squashed by a kaiju. Theo isn't afraid of violence or blood, so those aspects of mission battles won't scare him off. So long as he gets to use magic, learn new things, show off and not have to sit in solitary confinement or in daily one-on-one therapy sessions with Lucifer himself, he'll be willing to do a lot for LILITH.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
PROS: hard-working, idealistic, intelligent, eager to learn
CONS: abrasive, combative, power-hungry, antisocial
PERSONALITY REFERENCE: N/A since an OC but I have an old personality section here! He has been humbled quite a bit due to his time in The Return Journey, though.
POWERS & SKILLS: Theo is a powerful mage, one of the most powerful of his time, but without his necromancy he'd be severely nerfed right there. We can say LILITH was able to restore what they could from the Peregrine's technology that locked his ability away, but it wasn't perfect, so he lost the ability to cast such spells. His other knack lies in what are called force spells, or manipulation of gravity. These are spells he is still learning and perfecting.
Magic in his world from requires constructing them in writing, and reciting them out loud with appropriate gestures or spell components. spells can be memorized, small ones especially, but it gets harder the more complicated and powerful the spell is. The more powerful the spell, the more energy from the mage and spell components it costs. Components take the form of organic material, and the rarer and more magically-imbued it is, the better. This can be anything from minerals, dirt, ash, plant matter, even organs, tissue, and blood. If a mage doesn't have enough spell components to satisfy the spell's cost, it will come from the materials and minerals directly in their bodies. It's best to be prepared. The gravity spells he uses has a preference minerals and crystals. The more rare and pure the crystal, the more powerful it is, and might even be able to be used multiple times. More common and less pure reagents will usually be consumed for one spell. Similarly, things like the blood and parts of mages and other supernatural creatures offers more power and energy over that of a normal human.
The reason Theo is in the shape he's in is because he's got so much power but was never taught how to channel it properly. He's aware of the problem, but still needs more practice and discretion to not make himself waste away from casting again. It's much easier for him to cast bigger AoE-type spells that sap his energy too fast, than smaller, more efficient ones, and it's a flaw he will have to work to overcome. Despite having his magic taken from him by those in charge on the Peregrine, he never stopped studying and writing new spells. He was blocked on his technology from reading up on necromancy at all, so he focused on the gravity spells instead. He had nothing but time to memorize and rewrite his spells while on the Peregrine, though he had no way to practice them until now.
Besides the gravity spells, and will also probably start to come up with protective spells to keep himself from getting absolutely wrecked the second he gets hit. His personal spellbook from Return Journey will be his necessary item for his skills. Since he will be meeting other mages from all over time and space in this setting, he'll also be trying to learn other methods of magic and new spells to make his own.
NERFED POWERS: Necromancy is outta here entirely. Hopefully that's enough to nerf him. Theo is very powerful, but he's not as strong in other areas of magic as he is with necromancy. He will have some time in game to practice and perfect these new areas. He's a lot of raw power that needs a new focus.
PERSONAL ITEM: Since his spellbook is his necessary item, the only other personal item he will have is a journal he exchanged with one of the wardens in Return Journey, in an unspoken trade of logic puzzles that they left for one another. This was sort of an olive branch between the two (that warden being Viktor from Arcane, in case one ever apps).
