It might have been dropped right on you or nearby you from above, by a large black crow. It sits on a phone wire, cawing. Does it sound just a little bit like laughter?

Elsewhere around town, Theo can be found searching for the pieces, grumbling to himself. A different crow is sitting on his shoulder, occasionally hopping or flying nearby to help look. Theo's talking to it.]

No, go over there. Higher! You're a bird, don't you have better eyes than people? He's taken almost all the pieces. Just know when I see him next time, I'm gonna wring his neck.

[They stumble across a piece every once in while, but didn't you just get hit with a chess a few minutes ago?]

They are, but making them familiars makes them even smart.

He's a bird. It's not like he can move the pieces, and he gets distracted too easily.
