[Look out below, Mayfield! There's something being dropped on you. It's small and light, made of wood... why look, it's a chess piece. It might have been dropped right on you or nearby you from above, by a large black crow. It sits on a phone wire, cawing. Does it sound just a little bit like laughter?

Elsewhere around town, Theo can be found searching for the pieces, grumbling to himself. A different crow is sitting on his shoulder, occasionally hopping or flying nearby to help look. Theo's talking to it.]

No, go over there. Higher! You're a bird, don't you have better eyes than people? He's taken almost all the pieces. Just know when I see him next time, I'm gonna wring his neck.

[They stumble across a piece every once in while, but didn't you just get hit with a chess a few minutes ago?]

[[Please just specify if you're approaching the first crow - he can talk to people - or approaching Theo and the other bird!]]

[Precisely why he chose to throw one at you! The crow caw loudly, then lands on a parking meter close to Ken. It caws again. Hi!]

[Does he have some sort of troll target painted on his back?]

Oh so you're a wise guy eh? [He snorts and pokes a finger at it, but is careful not to actually touch.] You can't go throwing things at people. [Yes. He's lecturing the crow. He doesn't know why and he doesn't really expect it to understand but...]

[He can understand Ken just fine, actually! Comprehension is a totally different ballgame though. What the bird knows is that you're a fun guy. He jumps down and picks the dropped pawn, then flies back onto the parking meter.]

[Ken's just gonna sigh. Crows gonna crow.]

Anyways, you're not usually by yourself. Where's your brother and Theo?

[He looks around. That's a good question. But to answer Ken's question, here comes Theo and the other bird down the other end of the block. The crow near Ken flies back up onto the lines.]

Oh aren't you excited to see them. Let me guess, this is part of Theo's set. [Ken smirks at the crow]

You're fucked now, he doesn't look too happy.

[Indeed he doesn't. As Theo gets closer, the bird flies swiftly away. Theo spots this.]

H-Hey! Get--

[He sees Ken.] You could've grabbed that for me.

Sorry, I was a little surprised and then he took it back. [Ken smiles sheepishly]

Hey Theo.

Yeah, hi. Stupid bird. He can keep it. I'll just buy a new one and keep this one locked up better.

[Ken laughs] Man, they really act like your kids more then anything, don't they?

Sure feels that way.

[Shy!bird seems to punctuate this by cuddling closer to Theo's neck.]

Or in this one's case, a cat.

Yeah, I've seen cats that like to ride around on peoples shoulders. It's pretty neat. [What, Ken's done a lot of flower deliveries, he's seen all kinds.]

Where do you think jerkface...wait, do they have names?

Who knows. I can't catch up to him, and this one refuses to sell his brother out.

Hnn. Yeah. Phobos and Diemos. Diemos would be the jerkface one.

[Theo uses literary reference! The attack is super effective! Ken is confused!]

Well, that's siblings for you. [He's just...not gonna comment.]

[That doesn't surprise Theo, but it's not like Theo can make a whole lot of literary references either, so he'll take them where he can.]

Hnn. Yeah. I guess I give up at this point. I can't fly, and this one's no help.

Well.

I could fly with a gravity spell, but that would be ridiculous.

Take too much energy? You know he's just using this to be a brat. Maybe he'll bring them back eventually when it stops being funny.

[He thinks.] Probably not too much. But honestly, picture me flying around like an idiot for a moment and you'd know why I won't do such a thing.

[Note to self: cast flying spell when everyone's asleep.]

Hnn. Probably, if I stop chasing him. He's mad because I won't teach him to play.

Crows are pretty smart...But I can kinda understand why you wouldn't. Why don't you bribe your friend there to go find him if he wont do it willingly?

[He looks at Phobos. Phobos indignantly looks away. Theo looks back at Ken flatly.]

Oh. You already tried huh? Sucks for you then. [He rubbed the back of his neck.] Sorry, I'm kinda out of ideas then.

Whatever. I'm just gonna buy a new set and keep it away from them.

Good idea. Maybe something heavier? I don't know how much a crow can carry.

All the pieces here are made of wood. No one makes metal or stone ones. Whatever, I know better for next time.

Yeah. We should play again sometime, once you find all the pieces or get a new set.

I'll probably just pick up another one tomorrow. Stop by sometime.
